From a San Francisco estate collection, this magnificent, museum-quality, 1931 hand-chased, five-piece vintage silver plate coffee and tea set by the Barker Ellis Silver Company is a treasured find. The Barker Ellis Silver Company was established by Mary Barker in 1801. Through a series of name changes, the company acquired Ellis & Company in 1931. The silver tabletop manufacturing company is one of the oldest firms of silversmiths and electroplaters in Birmingham, England. The footed set is plated with heavy silver over copper, and is in excellent condition, but for a dent in the mid-belly of the coffee pot. The set has a mirror exterior, nearly scratch-free but for a smooth front panel. and the interiors of the pieces are very clean. The floral finials are attached and setting atop the three scalloped lids, providing dimensional interest. The hand-chasing and surface etching has a well-integrated, petite “C”monogram in the center design.
The pieces:
Coffee Pot with a 3 1/2” diameter is 11” from dragon spout to handle, it is 8”high to its lid’s finial, and 9” to the top of the high-arched handle.
Teapot has the 3 1/2” diameter, surrounded by a scalloped rim. It measures 12 1/2” from spout to handle, and is 6” high to the top of the lid’s finial and 6” to the top of the pot’s handle.
Sugar Bowl with a 3 1/2” diameter, measures 8 1/2” from handle to handle, and is 3 1/2” high. Its lid is 4” in diameter, and the covered sugar bowl is 5” to the lid’s finial.
Creamer, having a 3/1/2” diameter, is 7” from spout to handle, and measures 3” high to the scalloped rim.

From and estate collection, an 1880 antique silver plate water pitcher is in very good antique condition.
From its formation,
the Wallace companies had three names: R. Wallace & Sons through 1856, Wallace Brothers Silver Company from 1856 to 1884, and Wallace Silversmiths in 1875.

maintaining its independence, and surviving through incarnations through decades.
The 9” high pitcher has some light surface scratching, has retained a shine, and has no dents. Silver plating in a piece this age will have light gray coloring.
